The 2006 Kit Davison Bursary Recipients

1st Award - $2500 goes to Miss Lareina Yeung, an 18 year old resident of Vancouver. Lareina is in Arts and Sciences at Langara College and hopes to complete her PhD in Pharmacy or Computer Science. Lareina is involved with her community playing both Power soccer and hockey.

2nd Award - $1000 goes to Miss Tonya Thibodeau, an 18 year old resident of Duncan. Tonya is studying Arts at Malaspina University College and hopes to work in Human Development. Tonya is a Bridges to the Future volunteer and has a blog on our website www.bridgestothefure.ca. Check out her online journal of life at college. Tonya is also a hospice volunteer and recently shaved her head to raise money for cancer research!

3rd Award - $500 goes to Mr. Ean Price, a 23 year old resident of Peachland. Ean is in his first year studying Graphic and Digital Media Design at the Centre for Arts and Technology. Ean is a Peer Supporter for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

4th Award - $500 goes to Miss Britt-Lynn Oxendale, an18 year old resident of Burns Lake. Britt-Lynn is studying History at the University of Victoria and hopes to get her Law Degree. Britt-Lynn is also a Royal Canadian Sea Cadets award recipient.

In 2007, three awards will be granted as follows:

1st prize - $2,500
2nd prize - $1,500
3rd prize - $1,000

The 2006 Dr. Bonita Sawatzky Scholarship Award Recipient

$1,000 goes to Ms. Kelly Fritsch, a 23 year old resident of Chilliwack, BC who has a Bachelor of Arts in Human Rights and Philosophy from Carleton University. Kelly is in her first year of a Master of Arts in Critical Disability Studies and hopes to complete her PhD in political philosophy at York University in Toronto. Kelly’s career interest is to become a University Professor in disability rights and public policy. Kelly was a Development intern, in Buenos Aires, Argentina and a Board Member of the Ontario Public Interest Research Group. Kelly Presented her Research Paper on Disability and Positional Resistance in a Global Context - University of Windsor and Mine-Body Dualism: Disability Studies Association, Lancaster University, England.
